Hello ladies. How have you been? I’ve had this post on my mind for a while now but I was waiting for my natural hair to get to a certain length. Now that it is, which I rocked a fro for the first time last weekend…YAAAAY I felt it was the right time to put up this post.
Now I’m not trying to start a war from the title of this post but I want to share my experiences as I’ve been on both sides of the coin.
Once upon a time there was a little girl named Hilda (myself of course Lol!) who was natural and envied girls with relaxed hairs. As a rule, her mother insisted she could only relax after secondary school and she so looked forward to that time. Fast forward a few years later, Hilda had become a secondary school leaver and did not even wait an extra day before relaxing her hair. Alas as soon as she was done in the saloon she wondered where all of her beautiful lush natural hair had gone?! Her hair held no body or weight and was as light as a feather. To say she was disappointed is an understatement. After waiting all those years and seeing long relaxed haired ladies she naturally assumed hers would be the same.
5 years after that experience and countless relaxer sessions, Hilda began to read up on Hair care and become intrigued that African Kinky hair could grow as long as the “American ladies” she watched on T.V. She immediately started to research and after gathering information started her hair blog which you are reading today.
After 2 years of caring for her hair and seeing evidence that her hair could grow past her shoulders the most unfortunate thing happened. Her hair was attacked by dandruff and dry scalp because of hard water in a location she had moved to temporarily. Sadly and with all the pain of the 2 years of caring tenderly for her hair she decided to start afresh.
It’s been 6 months of being natural again and Hilda can see lots of improvement in her hair especially her edges. As much as she loves being natural the second time around, she misses her texlaxed hair and the support she was giving relaxed hair ladies too. She’s counting down to the end of the year where ...she has a HUGE decision to make – STAY NATURAL or GO TEXLAXED!! Click To Tweet
I hope this story inspires all ladies with all hair types.
Have a blessed week ahead…
